Joint Speech Session for the Supreme Council By-election of the Democratic Party
Assemblyman Lee Sungyoon (Jeonju-eul, North Jeolla Province), who is running as a candidate for the Supreme Council of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on January 11 that he would take the lead in the complete settlement of the rebellion and in promoting the "one member, one vote" system pledged by Party Leader Jung Cheongrae.
At the joint candidate speech session for the Supreme Council by-election of the Democratic Party, held in the main conference hall of the National Assembly Members' Office Building that afternoon, Lee stated, "The reason I am running for the Supreme Council again this time (following last year) is because Yoon Suk-yeol's rebellion has not yet ended."
Lee, who served as a member of the National Assembly's impeachment committee alongside Party Leader Jung, said, "Together with Leader Jung, we led to the dismissal of Yoon Suk-yeol. We passed the law establishing a special court for rebellion cases." He added, "In December last year, I proposed a special prosecutor bill to bring the rebellion to a close, as well as the second comprehensive special prosecutor bill targeting Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Keon-hee. As Leader Jung said, we will ensure that the second comprehensive special prosecutor bill is passed as the first bill of this year."
Addressing the special prosecutor who is maintaining the indictment against former President Yoon for leading the rebellion, Lee urged, "Just as Chun Doo-hwan, a senior figure in rebellion, was sentenced to death, Yoon Suk-yeol, as a junior in rebellion, should also be sentenced to death."
He continued, "I will push for the dissolution of the People Power Party, which is a party of rebellion, and ensure that all 39.7 billion won in presidential campaign subsidies received by Yoon Suk-yeol and the People Power Party are fully returned. I will also continue to call for a thorough investigation into the alleged judicial coup involving Cho Hui-dae," he emphasized.

As a pro-Jung Cheongrae lawmaker and a member of the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee, this is seen as a strategic move to garner support from hardline party members. Lee stated, "By September of this year, we must launch the Prosecution Office and the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency to properly complete prosecution reform. We will also transform the Court Administration Office into the Judicial Administration Committee, making the Supreme Court a court for the people, not a monarchic institution."
He also pledged to support the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration. Lee said, "Our party must support the great leap forward and the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration. We must win the upcoming local elections for the Lee Jaemyung administration to succeed. To win the local elections, we must unite as one."
Regarding the "one member, one vote" system for all party members, he stated, "When President Lee was party leader, he changed the ratio of rights-holding party members to delegates from 60:1 to 20:1, moving toward a one member, one vote system. Leader Jung also strongly promoted the one member, one vote system." He emphasized, "As soon as I become a Supreme Council member, I will consult with the party leader to implement the one member, one vote system." He also explained plans to strengthen party member sovereignty through the introduction of a party member participation budget system and the revival of local party chapters.
He further stressed, "Together with President Lee and Leader Jung, we will unite as a one-team Democratic Party to win the local elections and support the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration, building a 'big team' Korea."
