Jeollanam-do Focuses on Ensuring Resident Safety Amid Heavy Snowfall Over 20cm and Cold Wave Jeonnam Governor Kim Youngrok is presiding over a meeting to inspect the response situation for heavy snow and cold waves at the provincial government disaster control center on the 11th. On the morning of January 11, Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Youngrok presided over a meeting at the Provincial Disaster Comprehensive Situation Room to review the response to heavy snow and cold wave, checking key response measures and instructing officials to make every effort to ensure the safety of residents.


As of 12:00 p.m. on January 11, a heavy snow warning was in effect for Muan and Haenam, while a heavy snow advisory was issued for seven cities and counties within the province. Significant snowfall was recorded across the region, including 23.9 cm in Namak, Muan; 20.2 cm in Yeonsan-dong, Mokpo; and 18.8 cm in Sani-myeon, Haenam.


Governor Kim emphasized that “disaster response should be felt by the residents.”


He also instructed officials to: ▲ make full use of available resources for snow removal and focus all efforts on clearing roads; ▲ promptly inform residents of major situations such as road closures due to snowfall via safety text messages; ▲ closely manage those vulnerable to cold waves by directly checking the operation of boiler heating and their well-being by phone; and ▲ ensure that disaster text messages are tailored to the actual needs of residents and sent in a customized manner.


Since 7:40 p.m. on January 10, Jeollanam-do has activated Level 1 of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters. Provincial and municipal officials have been maintaining emergency work shifts, focusing on inspecting key snow management facilities and ensuring the safety of vulnerable groups.


Additionally, by 12:00 p.m. on January 11, snow removal operations had been carried out on 515 routes (5,434 km) across 19 cities and counties. Going forward, the province plans to thoroughly continue snow removal operations to prevent any traffic inconvenience during the morning commute on January 12, in preparation for further snowfall and icy conditions.


Jeollanam-do will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and respond swiftly and thoroughly, prioritizing the safety of residents through damage assessment and emergency restoration as needed.
