Active Support for Citizens Quitting Smoking
Changwon Public Health Center in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, is operating a year-round smoking cessation clinic to help citizens quit smoking under the theme "A Healthier Tomorrow! Starting with Quitting Smoking" to mark the New Year.
At the public health center's smoking cessation clinic, citizens who wish to quit smoking can start more easily and safely, as nicotine patches, nicotine gum, and nicotine lozenges are provided free of charge. In addition, professional smoking cessation counselors offer personalized one-on-one consultations, step-by-step guidance on managing withdrawal symptoms, and coping strategies for cravings.
To make the service more accessible for office workers, a "mobile smoking cessation clinic" is also being operated. If ten or more employees at a workplace wish to quit smoking and apply, professional staff from the public health center will visit the workplace to provide integrated smoking cessation services, including counseling, education, and nicotine replacement products.
Oh Jaeyeon, Director of Changwon Public Health Center, stated, "Quitting smoking is more likely to succeed when it is done systematically with experts, rather than relying solely on willpower." He strongly encouraged citizens who want to quit smoking but are hesitant because they do not know how to begin to visit the smoking cessation clinic.
He added, "We will continue to strengthen the guidance and promotion of the smoking cessation clinic so that more citizens and their families can choose to protect their health in the New Year."
Citizens and workplaces wishing to use the smoking cessation clinic or apply for the mobile smoking cessation clinic should contact the Changwon Public Health Center’s smoking cessation clinic.
