A heavy snow advisory has been issued for most areas in Jeonnam as sub-zero temperatures persist.


According to Jeonnam Province on January 11, as of 8:50 a.m. that day, snow accumulation reached a maximum of 19.7 cm in Namak, Muan (Jeonnam Provincial Government), followed by 14.3 cm in Mokpo, 14.2 cm in Unnam, Muan, 13.1 cm in Muan-eup, and 11.2 cm in Sijong, Yeongam.


Heavy snow warnings are currently in effect for Mokpo and Muan, while heavy snow advisories have been issued for 11 other areas, including Yeonggwang, Naju, Yeongam, Wando, Haenam, and Gangjin.


Jeonnam Province is maintaining the first level of emergency response, which was activated the previous day, and is continuing its response efforts.


No specific reports of facility damage or other concrete losses have been received so far. However, a total of 18 cases of damage caused by snow and strong winds over the two days of January 10 and 11 have been reported.


Currently, Jeonnam Province has closed six roads, including the 'Mokpo Yudalsan Circumferential Road,' 'Mokpo Dabujae-gil,' 'Muan Meeting Road,' 'Jindo Dumokjae,' Gundo Route 12 in Gurye (Nogodan), and Provincial Route 822 in Hwasun (Dotje). In addition, access to hiking trails in five national parks in the region, including Jirisan, has been restricted. Passenger ferry operations have been suspended on 35 routes, including the Mokpo Dochon-Uido route, affecting 40 vessels.


So far, Jeonnam Province has sent out 35 safety alert messages, and 949 personnel from the provincial government and 22 cities and counties are working emergency shifts.


Jeonnam Province plans to continue closely monitoring weather and traffic conditions and thoroughly manage the situation.
