Smoking Cessation Clinic at Public Health Center
Six Months of Intensive Support
On January 10, Gwangjin-gu in Seoul (Mayor Kim Kyungho) announced that it will operate a customized smoking cessation clinic for residents and workers who wish to quit smoking.

The smoking cessation clinic at Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center operates on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Upon registration, a professional smoking cessation counselor provides one-on-one tailored counseling for six months, from the start of the quitting process to the maintenance stage.
During the initial consultation, an individual smoking cessation plan is established, and nicotine patches and other smoking cessation aids, as well as behavioral reinforcement items, are provided free of charge. Ongoing counseling and management are offered to help maintain abstinence, and a commemorative gift is given to those who successfully quit for six months. For workers and others who find it difficult to visit the health center, the clinic also offers on-site smoking cessation services for local businesses and organizations.
This year, in particular, the district will operate a smoking cessation management points system in conjunction with Seoul’s “Wrist Doctor 9988+” program. Users of Wrist Doctor 9988 can make appointments for smoking cessation counseling through the app, and can receive up to 19,000 points per person depending on their registration and maintenance stage at the clinic. Last year, 1,216 people registered at the Gwangjin-gu smoking cessation clinic, with about 35% successfully quitting smoking.
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I hope that residents and workers who have decided to quit smoking for the New Year will start a healthy change through the public health center’s smoking cessation clinic,” adding, “We will continue to support the improvement of residents’ health and the spread of a smoke-free culture in the community.”
