According to the German Weather Service, the northern and eastern regions are expected to receive an additional 5 to 15 centimeters of snow, with up to 20 centimeters in mountainous areas, accompanied by strong winds of up to 110 kilometers per hour until the afternoon of the same day. The wind chill in these areas is forecast to remain between minus 16 and minus 11 degrees Celsius throughout the day.


Deutsche Bahn (DB) announced that it suspended long-distance high-speed train (ICE) services to and from northern cities such as Hamburg and Hanover on the morning of January 9, and is operating trains at reduced speeds in other regions.


In Lower Saxony, where Hanover is located, as well as Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, most public transportation, including city buses, has come to a halt, and schools have been closed.


Hamburg Airport canceled some flights, and Berlin Brandenburg Airport also reported expected flight delays.
