Rockfill Dam to Supply 26 Million Tons of Water Annually
Key Solution to Water Supply Challenges
Kyeryong Construction announced on January 9 that it has successfully completed the Dauntri Dam project, commissioned by the Cambodian Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, seven years after construction began.
The Dauntri Dam is an embankment dam (a dam primarily constructed from gravel and sand) with a height of 47 meters and a length of 654 meters. It has an effective storage capacity of approximately 132.5 million tons and can supply about 264 million tons of water annually.
The region is known for its fertile rice paddies and mild climate conditions, earning it the nickname "the rice bowl of Cambodia" due to its high agricultural productivity. However, in recent years, frequent floods and droughts caused by abnormal climate patterns have posed significant challenges to water resource management plans.
With the completion of the Dauntri Dam, flood control capabilities are now secured, which is expected to effectively reduce damage to downstream areas. Stable water supply is anticipated to boost agricultural productivity in downstream farmlands and make a significant contribution to resolving the recurring water shortage issues in northwestern Cambodia.
A Kyeryong Construction representative stated, "This project is highly significant in that it has promoted regional economic revitalization by expanding water resource infrastructure and establishing a stable water management system. Based on our accumulated overseas project experience, technological expertise, and management capabilities, we will continue to expand Kyeryong Construction's business scope in the global market."
