Yeongcheon City Introduces North Gyeongsang's First "Longevity Celebration Grant" for National Veterans... Strengthening Veteran Recognition

Annual Grant of 200,000 KRW for Recipients Aged 90 and Above
Automatic Payment in Birthday Month Without Application

Yeongcheon City has pioneered a new era of veteran recognition by introducing the "Longevity Celebration Grant" system for elderly national merit recipients, the first such initiative in North Gyeongsang Province.

On January 9, Yeongcheon City announced that it will provide an annual Longevity Celebration Grant of 200,000 KRW to national veterans aged 90 or older residing in the city. This initiative is intended to honor their contributions to the nation and to wish them a healthy old age.

The core of this project is "beneficiary-centered administration."

The city has established a system that automatically provides the grant in the recipient’s birthday month, without requiring any additional paperwork, once a veteran already receiving participation or honorary veteran allowances turns 90.

This measure completely eliminates administrative inconvenience for elderly veterans and their families.

Currently, Yeongcheon City is gradually expanding its recognition of national veterans by providing not only participation and honorary veteran allowances, but also welfare allowances for spouses of deceased veterans and consolation payments during Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays.

Additionally, the city provides a condolence payment of 300,000 KRW upon the death of a veteran, ensuring respect is shown throughout their lifetime. Support for national merit recipients and their families continues, including medical expense subsidies for independence patriots (up to 4 million KRW per year).

A city official stated, "As a 'city of patriotism and veterans,' Yeongcheon City is further strengthening its recognition for those who have served the nation. This Longevity Celebration Grant is an expression of our gratitude and respect, wishing for the healthy longevity of national veterans. We will continue to develop policies that provide practical support for the lives of veterans and their families."
