Suwon City Eases Emergency Welfare Criteria and Increases Aid Amount

Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will ease the eligibility criteria for emergency welfare support and increase the amount of aid provided.

The emergency welfare support system is designed to help households facing sudden crises-such as the main breadwinner’s unemployment, death, or serious illness-by quickly providing emergency living expenses and medical costs so they can overcome their difficulties.

Starting this year, Suwon City has raised the income threshold for single-person households eligible for support from 1,794,010 won or less to 1,923,179 won or less, and the financial asset limit from 8,392,000 won or less to 8,564,000 won or less.

In addition, the monthly living support payment for single-person households has been increased by 52,500 won, from 730,500 won last year to 783,000 won this year.

Emergency welfare support is a short-term measure that responds quickly to crisis situations. Households that require long-term assistance can receive help through public assistance programs such as the National Basic Livelihood Security System.

Suwon City also operates the Gyeonggi Province Emergency Welfare Program, which supports households in crisis with incomes at or below 100% of the median income. This program assists those who are not covered by the existing emergency welfare support system or need additional help, working to close gaps in the welfare safety net.

An official from Suwon City stated, "Citizens in need of assistance due to various crisis situations can request help at the local administrative welfare center corresponding to their address."
