Gimpo City Sees 92% Increase in Businesses... Social Survey Shows Upward Trends Across All Sectors

Number of Businesses Up 31,849, a 92.9% Increase from 2019
55.7% Say "Likely to Continue Living in Gimpo City in 10 Years"

Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Byungsoo) announced on January 9 that, according to the results of the 2025 Social Survey, the number of businesses increased by 31,849 (up 92.9%) compared to 2019. The survey also revealed significant improvements in citizen satisfaction across various economic sectors, including the local economy, resident registration, housing, culture and leisure, and education.

This survey was conducted by Gimpo City from August 20 to September 3, 2025, targeting household members aged 15 or older in a sample of 1,005 households within the city. It covered a wide range of indicators related to citizens’ daily lives, such as population, economy, housing, and education.


First, in the business sector, as of 2023, the total number of businesses in Gimpo City reached 66,118, an increase of 31,849 (up 92.9%) compared to 2019. Notably, the energy industry (such as electricity and gas) showed remarkable growth, and the number of medium- to large-sized businesses with 300 to 499 employees increased by 250%. This is analyzed as a strengthening of the city’s economic self-sufficiency.


In the resident registration sector, as of 2024, Gimpo City’s total population stood at 512,461, an increase of 3,661 people (0.7%) year-on-year. The number of households rose to 206,388, up by 1,794 households (0.9%). This demonstrates that Gimpo City has maintained a stable growth trend in both population and household size in recent years.


In the housing sector, 27.3% of citizens were found to be long-term residents who have lived in the city for more than 20 years. Regarding their intention to continue living in Gimpo City 10 years from now, 55.7% responded “somewhat likely” or higher, showing a relatively strong sense of community compared to 2021 (51.6%).


In the culture and leisure sector, the survey found that citizens’ satisfaction with life averaged 6.4 points, an increase of about 12% compared to 2021 (5.7 points). Regional satisfaction averaged 6.2 points, up about 11% from 2021 (5.7 points). This indicates that citizens’ perceptions of their living environment and local conditions have generally improved.


Finally, in the education sector, the survey on satisfaction with the educational environment showed that 51.1% of respondents were “somewhat satisfied” or higher with the childcare environment, an increase of 23.5% compared to 2021 (27.6%). The proportion of those “somewhat satisfied” or higher with the public education environment was 26.1%, up from 19.6% in 2021, confirming an overall trend of improvement in the educational environment.

Lee Youngjong, Director of Future Strategy, stated, “This social survey is an important basic resource for objectively understanding the changes in Gimpo City,” adding, “We will thoroughly analyze the survey results and actively use them to establish practical policies aimed at improving the quality of life for our citizens.”
