On January 9, Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Shin Sangjin) announced the results of its 15th Social Survey, which was conducted on 1,590 households in the city from August 20 to September 3. The survey covered 57 questions across seven areas closely related to citizens' daily lives, including welfare, housing, transportation, and culture.

According to the results, 78.1% of respondents said they would like to reside in Seongnam even after ten years. This figure represents an 8.0 percentage point increase compared to the 2021 survey. Notably, 61.4% of respondents who were not born in Seongnam stated that they feel as if Seongnam is their hometown, indicating that newcomers are rapidly assimilating into the local community.

The quality of life perceived by citizens has also improved significantly. The proportion of those satisfied with their overall life reached 94.0%, and the percentage of respondents who chose "very satisfied" on a 10-point scale was 6.0%, three times higher than four years ago. The average life satisfaction score among Seongnam residents was 6.5 points, surpassing the average of 6.3 points among the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province.

The most representative image of Seongnam, as selected by citizens, was "a transportation hub in the metropolitan area" (27.6%). This was followed by "Tancheon Stream" (18.7%) and "a high-tech industrial city" (18.3%). Satisfaction with public transportation is also on the rise. Among subway users, 59.0% expressed satisfaction, and satisfaction with city and village buses reached 48.8%, a 10 percentage point increase from 2021, indicating that citizens are experiencing improvements in public transportation services.

However, some challenges remain. The most needed public facilities were identified as "public parking lots" (32.8%) and "parks and green spaces" (30.8%). For balanced development between the old and new downtown areas, "housing policies" (41.6%) were overwhelmingly cited as the most urgent policy priority.

In addition, 40.1% of citizens said they were satisfied with their overall working conditions, more than three times the 11.9% who reported dissatisfaction.

A Seongnam City official stated, "This survey confirms that the pride and satisfaction of Seongnam citizens rank among the highest in Gyeonggi Province. We will thoroughly review key issues such as the housing policies and expansion of parking spaces demanded by citizens and use them as core indicators for future municipal administration."

Meanwhile, the survey has a margin of error of ±3.5% and a confidence level of 95%. The final results will be confirmed after review by the National Data and Statistics Information Service.
