The roundtable was attended by Lee Kyungja, President of the Goyang Chapter of the Parents’ Solidarity for the Disabled, Kim Jaeryong, President of the Gyeonggi Disabled Human Rights Forum, Kim Kibong, Chairman of the Woorim Welfare Foundation, Seo Jinyoung, a parent of a student at a special school, Kim Beomsoo, Executive Director of the Goyang Future Vision Network, and around 20 members of disability organizations. They conveyed the voices from the field regarding disability care, activity support, the right to education, and the right to mobility.

Lee Kyungja, President of the Goyang Chapter, emphasized, “Although laws and systems for integrated care for people with developmental disabilities were implemented this year, the government’s financial support structure is designed mainly for elderly care, so care for people with disabilities remains insufficient and marginalized. Along with legal amendments, it is essential to actively establish feasible support measures at the level of the Goyang city government.”

Kim Jaeryong, President, pointed out regarding the activity support worker system for people with disabilities, “Although activity support is a core system that enables the independence and daily life of people with disabilities, severe difficulties are arising in the field due to reductions in provincial and city budgets and insufficient support. Securing a stable budget and improving the system is urgently needed.”

Kim Kibong, Chairman, raised the need to establish a comprehensive support system covering the entire life cycle of people with developmental disabilities. Parent Seo Jinyoung stated, “Practical measures are needed to guarantee the right to education and independence for students with disabilities,” and stressed, “It is urgent to expand support for education activities focused on experience, career, and independence for students with disabilities at the Goyang city level.”

Former President Min Kyung Sun said, “During my tenure at Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, I consistently paid attention to guaranteeing the right to mobility for transportation-vulnerable people with disabilities and improving support for vehicles for people with disabilities. Since disability welfare is not a matter of declaration but of implementation, effective integrated support measures must be established at the local government level going forward.”

During the roundtable, there was also a Q&A session with the audience, where people with disabilities and their guardians shared various suggestions for improving the system and the daily difficulties they face.

Former President Min emphasized, “Disability welfare is a standard for measuring a city’s level of respect for human rights. I will continue to listen to voices from the field, not just to support the lives of people with disabilities, but to create a Goyang where we live together.”
