On January 9, the morning temperatures in Gwangju and Jeonnam are expected to drop to around minus 5 degrees Celsius, continuing the cold spell. On Saturday, January 10, up to 7 centimeters of snow is forecasted to fall across the entire region.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on January 8, the morning low on January 9 will range from minus 6 to minus 2 degrees Celsius, which is somewhat lower than the seasonal average. Strong winds will make it feel even colder. However, temperatures are expected to gradually rise from the afternoon, reaching highs of 7 to 10 degrees Celsius, which should ease the cold somewhat.
On January 10, rain or snow is expected to fall across Gwangju and the entire Jeonnam region from morning through night. The expected snowfall is between 2 and 7 centimeters, with precipitation around 5 millimeters. In particular, during the afternoon, heavy snow of 1 to 3 centimeters per hour is forecasted, and in some areas, around 5 centimeters of snow may fall late at night. Extra caution is advised to prevent accidents on icy roads.
An official from the Korea Meteorological Administration emphasized, "Subzero cold will continue until tomorrow morning, and the day after tomorrow, a significant amount of snow is expected to accumulate. Please make thorough preparations in advance to prevent traffic disruptions and accidents caused by heavy snow concentrated during the night the day after tomorrow."
