Jeonbuk Province to Provide Comprehensive Support for Healthcare and Key Issues in Jangsu County

Jeonbuk Province is launching comprehensive support measures, including financial assistance and institutional reforms, to strengthen the medical safety net and revitalize the local economy in Jangsu County.

According to Jeonbuk Province on January 8, the province discussed solutions to major issues facing Jangsu County and pledged active support at the "2026 County Visit with Residents" event held at Jangsu Hannuri Hall on the same day.

The province will first focus on addressing the medical service gap in Jangsu County. Considering the shortage of private medical institutions in the area, the province plans to prioritize securing staff for the emergency room at the public health center. In preparation for a decrease in public health doctors, administrative resources will be mobilized to protect the local medical safety net by supporting the salaries of specialists and hiring senior physicians.

Financial support will also be provided to improve residential conditions. The province has decided to provide an initial 1 billion won in construction costs for the Janggye-myeon urban regeneration project, which will receive a total investment of 24.2 billion won by 2027. Through this, the plan is to expand the Red Food Complex Business Center and living SOC facilities, revitalize the commercial district in the township, and attract new residents.

The Shingwangjae Mountain Tourism Promotion District in Cheoncheon-myeon, where development had been delayed due to the absence of private roadways, will see progress through the expansion and paving of Local Road No. 726, a project with a budget of 35.9 billion won. The province plans to complete the detailed design within the year and swiftly carry out administrative procedures such as land compensation to enable early commencement of construction.

In particular, the province will address the long-standing issue of reverse discrimination faced by residents around Donghwa Dam. Although the dam serves multiple purposes, it has been classified for agricultural use, excluding it from support. To overcome these legal limitations, the province will strongly recommend institutional reforms to relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

An official from Jeonbuk Province stated, "The various issues faced by Jangsu County, including healthcare, transportation, and resident support, are directly linked to the lives of our residents. From financial assistance to legislative amendments, we will mobilize all available means at the provincial level to bring about tangible changes that Jangsu residents can truly feel."
