Hyungil Kim (57), former Deputy Mayor of Dalseo District Office in Daegu, announced his candidacy for Mayor of Dalseo District on January 8.
On this day at 2 p.m., Kim held a press conference at the Daegu City Party Office of the People Power Party in Beomeo-dong, Suseong District, Daegu, stating, "I am declaring my candidacy for Mayor of Dalseo District to overcome the crisis facing local communities and to build a new Dalseo District that can compete on the global stage."
Kim pointed out, "Dalseo District is currently the largest basic local government in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, with a population of over 530,000. However, it stands at a turning point, facing multiple crises such as demographic changes, economic recession, and concentration in the capital region." He emphasized, "For Dalseo District to rise again, we need administration that understands the field, the ability to execute through cooperative governance, and tangible results that improve residents' lives."
Kim presented two main missions to upgrade Dalseo District into a world-class city: "A young city leading Daegu" and "A dignified city where daily life is abundant." He also promised five visions: a city of excellent education, a cultured and dignified city, a vibrant city for corporate success, a smart and sustainable city, and an inclusive city of welfare.
He especially emphasized, "Based on my experience of raising two children who graduated from high schools in Dalseo District, I will make Dalseo District the top city for children's education." He added, "I will open a new chapter for Dalseo District through communication and cooperative governance with all sectors of the local community and active collaboration with local National Assembly members."
Entering public service through the local civil service exam in 1997, Kim has worked in key areas of Daegu City, including economic and industrial affairs, culture and sports, urban construction, planning and administration, and disaster safety. He also served as head of the Urban Railway Construction Headquarters and the Urban Management Headquarters, both of which have offices in Sangin-dong and Daecheon-dong, respectively. Until the end of last year, he served as Deputy Mayor of Dalseo District.
Kim stated, "I want to become a mayor who enables all residents of Dalseo District to enjoy a better daily life and look forward to a brighter tomorrow," and appealed, "As an administrative expert who knows Dalseo District better than anyone and has the ability to execute, I ask for your support."
