On January 7, the Gwangju Seo-gu Council visited the National 5·18 Democracy Cemetery to pay their respects and conducted an environmental cleanup activity around the cemetery grounds.

This visit was organized to honor the noble spirit of the 5·18 Democracy Movement and to pay tribute to the spirits of democracy and the patriotic martyrs.

After paying their respects, the Seo-gu Council commemorated the meaning of the spirits of democracy and reflected on their dedication to democracy by carrying out an environmental cleanup around the cemetery.

Chairman Jeon Seungil stated, "In May, 46 years ago, the spirits of democracy risked their lives and marched toward the Jeonnam Provincial Government Building to defend democracy. Their noble sacrifice continues to remind us of the value of democracy today. Just as the spirits of May did, we will take the lead in protecting and advancing democracy and continue our legislative activities without interruption."
