Jokook: "Daegu Dominated by People Power Party Ranks Last in Per Capita GRDP for 31 Years"

Jokook, leader of the Jokook Innovation Party, visited Daegu on January 8 ahead of the June 3 local elections to appeal for support.

On this day, Jokook presided over an on-site Supreme Council meeting at the Innovation Party's Daegu City branch and stated, "For more than 30 years, the People Power Party has dominated Daegu, and during those 31 years, there is one area where Daegu has ranked last nationwide: per capita GRDP, or Gross Regional Domestic Product."

Jokook further criticized, "Daegu's real growth rate is the second lowest in the country, and each year, around 10,000 people leave Daegu. This is the result despite a generation of favoritism toward the People Power Party in Daegu. What have the People Power Party leaders in Daegu been doing all this time?"

He also stated, "Monopoly breeds incompetence and fosters corruption. Only through healthy competition can we achieve checks and balances and revitalize society and the economy." He emphasized, "Now is the perfect opportunity to address the regional power cartel that has revealed its true colors of rebellion."

As solutions, Jokook proposed expanding the mixed-member proportional representation system and introducing multi-member electoral districts.

Before the meeting, Jokook also paid tribute in front of the 2·28 Democratic Movement Memorial Tower at Duryu Park in Daegu.
