Empathy for Practicing Net-Zero in Daily Life
Gyeongnam Information University held the "Carbon Neutrality Idea Challenge" on January 5, targeting middle and high school students from the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region.
The "KIT Net-Zero Earth:ON Carbon:OFF Idea Challenge Competition" was organized by the Energy New Industry Innovation Convergence University Project Group under the theme of responding to climate change and achieving carbon neutrality. Departments related to the energy new industry, including the Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering, participated to help discover ideas from youth to solve environmental and energy issues.
The grand prize went to Heo Yunseol from Teresa Girls’ High School; the gold prize to Lee Seunghwan from Geumseong High School; the silver prize to Kim Seungju from Donga High School; the bronze prize to Kim Jidam from Busan Girls’ High School; and the encouragement award to Song Jihoo and Seo Junho from Donga High School.
The students who participated in the competition presented creative ideas on topics such as carbon neutrality, energy conservation, and eco-friendly technologies, thereby enhancing their understanding of environmental issues and their problem-solving skills. They also agreed that carbon neutrality is not a distant future goal but a challenge that must be practiced in daily life now.
Kim Bongsoo, Head of the Energy New Industry Innovation Convergence University Project Group, emphasized, "This challenge is a meaningful opportunity for young people to reflect on environmental and energy issues and explore their career paths. We will continue to expand education and experiential programs linked to local industries to nurture future talent in the energy sector."
