Farmers leading eco-friendly agriculture in Damyang County, Jeonnam have extended a warm helping hand to support the healthy growth of local students with disabilities.

According to the Damyang Scholarship Foundation on January 8, the Damyang County Eco-Friendly Agriculture Association donated a scholarship of 1 million KRW for students with disabilities to foster local talent.

The Damyang County Eco-Friendly Agriculture Association is an organization comprised of 110 eco-friendly farms. Despite challenging conditions such as the climate crisis and an aging population, the association has played a pivotal role in revitalizing local eco-friendly agriculture by differentiating Damyang-produced eco-friendly agricultural products and pioneering new markets.

Kim Younghoe, president of the association, stated, "We have come together to give back for the generous support of eco-friendly agriculture in Damyang County and to help local students with disabilities stay hopeful and dedicated to their studies. We will continue to approach agriculture with a sense of responsibility for consumers' health and actively participate in sharing within the local community."

Jung Chulwon, Mayor of Damyang County, responded, "The valuable scholarship donations from farmers working on the frontlines of eco-friendly agriculture will be a great encouragement to local talent. We will do our utmost to ensure that the donated scholarship funds are used meaningfully."

Meanwhile, the Damyang Scholarship Foundation established a scholarship for students with disabilities in 2023 to expand educational opportunities for local students with disabilities. So far, approximately 100 million KRW has been raised, and once the scholarship fund begins to generate interest, it will be awarded to students with disabilities enrolled in elementary, middle, high schools, and universities.
