Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to cooperate in establishing detailed business plans, including the integration of metropolitan transportation facilities and the attraction of tenant companies and specialized facilities.
By collaborating with the Korea Water Resources Corporation, which possesses expertise in the fields of water, energy, and urban development, Gimpo City expects to expand waterfront policy formulation and joint projects based on the corporation’s smart city and integrated waterfront city development technologies and experience.
Previously, in August 2023, Gimpo City had signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Korea Water Resources Corporation to promote the Gimpo Environmental Regeneration Innovation Complex Project, subsequently achieving the milestone of passing the preliminary feasibility study. The latest agreement, signed after the completion of the preliminary feasibility study, aims to further specify the implementation plans for the project, secure stable execution, and expand the scope of cooperation between Gimpo City and the Korea Water Resources Corporation.
The signing ceremony was held at Gimpo City Hall on January 7, attended by Gimpo Mayor Kim Byungsoo and Ahn Jungho, Director of the Korea Water Resources Corporation. The main points of the agreement include mutual cooperation on matters necessary for the successful promotion of the Gimpo Environmental Regeneration Innovation Complex Project, policy development to enhance the competitiveness of both organizations and contribute to community development, and the identification and implementation of new joint projects.
With this agreement, the Korea Water Resources Corporation plans to further enhance the quality and feasibility of the business strategy development service it has been pursuing since July of last year. Through this, the corporation aims to establish a rational land use plan and push forward with the Gimpo Environmental Regeneration Innovation Complex Project, targeting the designation of the urban development zone and the establishment of the development plan by December 2027.
Mayor Kim Byungsoo stated, "The Gimpo Environmental Regeneration Innovation Complex is a key project that encompasses community recovery and future growth engines. Through this agreement, we expect to expand the scope of cooperation based on the Korea Water Resources Corporation’s expertise in waterfront and urban management, and to build a foundation for collaboration that will drive regional development."
