Gyeonggi Province held an institutional integrated care inspection meeting at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government on January 7, ahead of the implementation of the 'Integrated Care Support Act' in March.
The Integrated Care Support Act, an abbreviation of the 'Act on Integrated Support for Regional Care such as Medical and Nursing Care,' was introduced with the aim of providing bundled support so that those in need of care, such as the elderly and people with disabilities, can receive necessary services where they live.
The main feature of this law is to resolve the problems of the existing system, which required separate applications for each service such as long-term care insurance, home-visit care, and public health center services. Instead, after a single comprehensive assessment, individuals will receive a customized package of the services they need.
During the meeting, Gyeonggi Province reviewed the overall progress of integrated care and discussed ways to enhance cooperation between departments and public institutions.
The participants agreed that integrated care is not the responsibility of a single department but a collaborative task for the entire province. They emphasized the importance of information sharing, division of roles, and building a cooperative system among institutions.
Before the full-scale implementation of integrated care, Gyeonggi Province has been promoting 'Care for All' and the 'Visiting Care Medical Center' since 2024.
'Care for All' is a project that provides care services to all residents in crisis, regardless of age or income. Starting this year, the project will be expanded to all 31 cities and counties in the province. The 'Visiting Care Medical Center' is a program in which medical staff visit the homes of residents with mobility difficulties to provide medical and welfare services at the location of their choice.
Once integrated care begins in March, Gyeonggi residents will be able to access provincial care services anytime and anywhere.
Kim Sungjoong, First Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Integrated care is a key policy to improve the quality of life for residents amid aging and social structural changes. Based on the experience accumulated through field-oriented projects such as Care for All and the Visiting Care Medical Center, we will establish a more comprehensive integrated care system."
