On January 7, Yongin City signed a "Mutual Cooperation Agreement on the Operation of the Yongin IP Support Center" with Gyeonggi Technopark and the Yongin Industry Promotion Agency at the city hall's reception room.
The city explained that the establishment of this IP support center is the first case among the six cities where semiconductor clusters have been formed or are being promoted.
The agreement covers the following: IP consulting and strategy development for small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs; creation, protection, and utilization of intellectual property and dispute response; promotion of technology commercialization and transfer; and operation of IP education and consulting programs.
Under the agreement, the city plans to set up the center at the main office of the Yongin Industry Promotion Agency by March. The center will operate as the Yongin branch office of the Gyeonggi Intellectual Property Center (RIPC), which is located in Ansan's Gyeonggi Technopark.
The city expects that the establishment of the center will relieve companies of the inconvenience of having to travel to Ansan for administrative services related to intellectual property rights.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, said, "We will actively participate and provide support together with the Industry Promotion Agency to ensure the successful operation of the center in the future."
