Supplying Core Components to Boston Dynamics
Broad Collaboration with Qualcomm on "SDV and ADAS"
Hyundai Mobis has announced a series of strategic collaborations with global companies at CES 2026, the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition. As part of Hyundai Motor Group's strategy to expand its 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Robotics' ecosystem, Hyundai Mobis has established a collaborative framework with Boston Dynamics, the group's robotics affiliate, signaling its entry into the robot components market.
Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Euisun Chung’s visit to the booth drew attention, and the company has agreed to form a comprehensive partnership with American semiconductor company Qualcomm in future mobility sectors, including Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV).
Supplying Core Robot Components to Boston Dynamics
On the second day of CES 2026, January 7 (local time), Hyundai Mobis announced that it will supply core robot components to Boston Dynamics in line with the mass production schedule of the next-generation humanoid robot, Atlas. Boston Dynamics will become Hyundai Mobis’s first customer in the robotics sector.
Leveraging its expertise in automotive parts design and accumulated mass production experience, Hyundai Mobis has decided to prioritize entry into the robotics market-a new business area-by focusing on actuators, which are similar components. Actuators are key driving devices that receive signals from controllers to perform movements and account for about 60% of the material cost in manufacturing humanoid robots.
Atlas was recently tested at Hyundai Motor Group’s Metaplant America (HMGMA) for tasks such as lifting objects and car bodies. Starting in 2028, it will be introduced for sequencing operations to classify parts at HMGMA. By 2030, the scope of work will expand to include parts assembly, and ultimately, Atlas will take on precision tasks that involve high levels of mental and physical fatigue. Hyundai Motor Group plans to build a system capable of producing 30,000 robots annually by 2028.
At a press conference on January 5, Hyundai Mobis President and CEO Hyun Kyuseok stated, "We see the robotics business as a new growth engine for Hyundai Mobis’s future, supporting the group’s robotics business with our component competitiveness. As you know, actuators are extremely important components for robots, and for now, we are focusing on actuators for the humanoid robot Atlas."
Broad Future Mobility MOU Signed with Qualcomm

At CES 2026, Hyundai Mobis signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Qualcomm to collaborate across a wide range of areas, including SDV and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The MOU ceremony, held at the Hyundai Mobis exhibition hall on January 7, was attended by Jung Sugyeong, Executive Vice President of Hyundai Mobis’s Electronics BU, and Nakul Duggal, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Automotive, Industrial, and IoT at Qualcomm.
Until now, Hyundai Mobis and Qualcomm have collaborated in specific fields or for the implementation of particular systems, but this time, the focus is on broad collaboration to enhance competitiveness in the mobility sector.
Previous collaborations have produced results in the Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) sector. The two companies have developed a system that uses non-line-of-sight sensors to detect obstacles outside the driver’s field of vision and perform emergency braking. They have recently completed real-vehicle validation and plan to move forward with commercialization.
Through this partnership, the two companies will develop integrated solutions optimized for emerging markets and pursue orders from global customers. Initially, they plan to introduce integrated ADAS technology based on their combined strengths in system integration, sensor fusion, image recognition, and system-on-chip technology. Hyundai Mobis’s controllers and software will be combined with Qualcomm’s semiconductor chips to create synergy.
Advanced technologies such as autonomous driving and autonomous parking will also be developed with a focus on the needs of emerging markets, including India. As the automotive market in these regions expands from compact cars to a wider variety of models, the adoption rate of ADAS is rising rapidly.
At CES 2026, Hyundai Mobis is operating a private booth, open exclusively to pre-invited global customers. Over the four days of the exhibition, from January 6 to 9, about 200 representatives from global customers in North America, Europe, and other regions are expected to visit.
