On January 7, Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province, led by Mayor Lee Donghwan, held the first executive meeting of the new year at the Baekseok Annex, where Mayor Lee called for stronger public promotion of the "System Changes in 2026."

Opening the executive meeting, Mayor Lee stated, "With the arrival of the Year of the Fire Horse, I hope this year will be as vibrant and dynamic as a red horse," and added, "I wish for this to be a year in which Goyang accelerates change and progress through the passionate enthusiasm and unstoppable drive of our staff."


He went on to express his gratitude to the staff, related organizations, and volunteers who participated in the New Year's sunrise event held at Haengju Fortress on January 1, noting that the event concluded without any confusion or safety incidents despite the large crowds.


Mayor Lee also remarked, "With the first anniversary of the opening of GTX-A, citizens' transportation convenience has greatly improved," and expressed his expectations that, "Once the third phase opens in June this year, it will be possible to travel from Kintex Station to Hwaseong Dongtan in under 40 minutes, which will further expand the effects of transportation innovation." He also requested continued efforts to ensure that citizens using the GTX experience no inconveniences.


After receiving a report on the system changes coming in the new year of 2026, Mayor Lee stressed the importance of providing prompt and accurate information through a variety of promotional channels.


Mayor Lee urged, "For policies with high public impact, please ensure that no one misses out on benefits by conducting targeted promotions for each group." He also added, "Staff members should fully familiarize themselves with the newly changing systems and laws to perform their work effectively, and if you find any laws or systems that seem disconnected from citizens' lives, please actively propose improvements to the central government."
