Yangyang County in Gyeonggi Province has begun upgrading its real-time Bus Information System (BIS) to enhance transportation convenience for residents and passengers.

This project aims to resolve issues where real-time operation information for some routes between Yangyang and Sokcho was not displayed due to insufficient regional system integration, and to provide more accurate and convenient public transportation information.

The main routes used by Yangyang residents and tourists between Yangyang and Sokcho are divided into those managed by Sokcho City (Route 9, Route 9-1) and those managed by Yangyang County (Route 9, Route 94, Route 95). However, because the BIS systems of the two local governments operate differently, information such as bus arrival times has not been linked, causing inconvenience for many passengers.

Additionally, there have been concerns that the bus route and timetable information, as well as operational status provided on the existing Yangyang County public transportation website, had limitations in allowing users to intuitively understand the information.

To address these inconveniences, the county plans to improve the previously dualized operation method (BIS and website) to enhance system efficiency. At the same time, it expects to improve the quality of public transportation services and passenger satisfaction by providing mutually linked bus information displays and real-time operation status for the Yangyang-Sokcho routes.

Furthermore, a highly precise bus guide service that allows users to check the real-time movement of buses on a map via smartphone will be introduced in the future. Through the Yangyang County BIS website and KakaoMap, users will be able to easily check real-time bus locations, route operation information, and estimated arrival times at each stop from anywhere, not just at bus stops. The system is expected to be completed as early as next month.

The county also plans to sequentially install and replace new Bus Information Terminals (BIT), as well as update bus stop route maps and timetables according to budget conditions.

A county official stated, "We will continue to improve transportation facilities and related systems so that both residents and tourists can use public transportation comfortably," adding, "We will do our best to enhance public transportation services going forward."

Currently, Yangyang County operates its BIS with 34 Bus Information Terminals (BIT) and 17 vehicle terminals (10 rural buses and 7 village buses) installed throughout the area.
