Jangsu County in Jeonbuk has officially begun accepting applications for the "Rural Basic Income Pilot Project" as of January 5, aiming to help stabilize the income of rural residents and invigorate the local economy.

According to Jangsu County on January 7, residents who are ultimately selected as beneficiaries will receive 150,000 won per month in the form of Jangsu Love Gift Certificates (card type) for two years, from this year until 2027.

Eligible applicants are residents who have been registered and living in Jangsu County for more than 30 days. However, those with unknown addresses and foreigners are excluded. Among military personnel, only career soldiers and social service agents are eligible, while conscripts are excluded from the program.

Applications must be submitted in person at the administrative welfare center of the applicant's local township or town; online applications are not accepted. Applicants must bring their personal ID and Jangsu Love Gift Certificate card. New residents who moved to the area after October 20, 2025, must also submit additional documents such as a lease contract or photographic proof of residence.

The basic income will be loaded through the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation's 'chak' system, and must be used within 90 days from the date of payment. Any unused balance after this period will be automatically reclaimed, so recipients should take note. The first payment is scheduled for the end of February.

The county plans to hold a resident information session this month to gather feedback and will finalize details such as usage restrictions for the gift certificates next month.

Choi Hunsik, Mayor of Jangsu County, stated, "This project is a key initiative for stabilizing residents' income and revitalizing the local community. We will make thorough preparations to ensure the pilot project becomes a successful model, and do our utmost to ensure that all eligible residents receive their benefits without omission."
