Focusing R&D Capabilities on AI, Low Power, and Security IP
Business Diversification Through Strategic Partnerships in Automotive, Power Semiconductors, and Sensor Sectors
On January 7, Cynic Solution, a company specializing in system semiconductors, announced that it is strengthening its design house capabilities centered on design and foundry integration, while expanding its business areas through joint development with global strategic partners.
Currently, Cynic Solution is pursuing multiple mid- to long-term research and development projects to enhance its design house capabilities. Major projects include: ▲ Development of SCM controller IP technology supporting in-memory computing for lightweight AI in edge devices (2022-2026); ▲ Design of batteryless BLE-based AI SoC for smart home applications (2023-2026); ▲ Design of SoC for intelligent payment terminals supporting AP functions with encryption accelerators (2024-2026); and ▲ Development of Ge-on-Si short-wavelength infrared image sensor camera systems (2024-2027).
Through research and development, the company is gradually advancing its system semiconductor design capabilities and establishing a design foundation that can respond to a wide range of application fields.
In the automotive and power semiconductor sectors, Cynic Solution is engaged in a strategic collaboration with Elevation Microsystems, a fabless company headquartered in the United States. Elevation Microsystems is a company in which both Cynic Solution and a major global U.S. corporation have made early-stage equity investments, and its technological prowess is recognized by having attracted strategic investment from Hyundai Mobis. The company is growing in line with global automakers’ strategies for semiconductor self-sufficiency. Cynic Solution and Elevation Microsystems are strengthening their cooperation not only in existing automotive and power semiconductor design but also to expand into robotics and automotive sensor sectors.
Cynic Solution is also collaborating with Cortus, a French company specializing in automotive chip design, to provide IP and solutions for RISC-V-based SoC development platforms to customers in the automotive sector, including automakers.
In the sensor semiconductor field, based on its experience in MEMS microphone sensor design and process development through collaboration with SK hynix System IC (WUXI), the company is expanding its design applications to a variety of sensor semiconductor areas, including MEMS ultrasonic sensors, short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) sensors, and image sensors.
The MEMS microphone sensor is being developed with an ultra-compact, low-power design featuring an SNR of 65-67dBA, and a customer-tailored design library is being established, with mass production targeted for this year.
For ultrasonic sensors, prototype production has already begun to secure mass production processes for 6-inch and 8-inch sensors. The application scope is being expanded not only to medical devices but also to beauty devices and the physical AI sector. The company is currently in discussions with strategic foundry partners regarding the secured mass production processes.
The SWIR sensor is being jointly developed with Stratio, an infrared AI specialist that won second place at the '2025 AI Champion Competition' hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT. Moving forward, Cynic Solution plans to apply Ge-on-Si-based SWIR sensors across various industries, including home appliances, medical, automotive, defense, and robotics.
Through strategic contracts with specific partners in China and Taiwan, the company is jointly developing custom image sensors for automotive and security camera applications, thereby expanding its business areas.
Kwon Sungjun, head of management support at Cynic Solution, stated, "As a design house that considers mass production optimization from the design stage, we are continuously strengthening our capabilities."
He added, "We will continue to build design competitiveness in various application fields such as power semiconductors and sensors for physical AI implementation, solidifying our role as a specialized system semiconductor design company."
