Jongno District Strengthens Resident Safety Insurance... Establishes a "Tailored Insurance Network"

Expansion of Insurance Coverage for Seniors and Traditional Market Merchants

Jongno District in Seoul (Mayor Jung Moonhun) will expand its multi-layered insurance system this year, covering vulnerable seniors, bicycle users, and traditional market merchants, to strengthen the safety net for residents.

Jongno District Strengthens Resident Safety Insurance... Establishes a "Tailored Insurance Network" Jung Moonhun, Mayor of Jongno District, visited the traditional market ahead of Lunar New Year. Provided by Jongno District.

The district will first implement the "Jongno Insurance for Vulnerable Seniors" for approximately 3,300 residents aged 65 and older who are basic livelihood security recipients or belong to the near-poor group. This initiative aims to address the issue of low-income seniors postponing treatment due to the burden of medical expenses after accidents, which can lead to worsening health conditions.

This insurance provides up to 2 million won in injury funeral support, as well as coverage for hospitalization due to traffic accidents, emergency room treatment, and injury-related surgery costs. It can be combined with existing Life Safety Insurance and Seoul Citizen Safety Insurance, further strengthening the welfare safety net for vulnerable groups. The insurance is valid from January 1 to December 31 this year, and claims can be made within three years of an accident.

The "Life Safety Insurance," which covers all district residents, is also in operation. It provides comprehensive coverage for accidental death and disability, injury diagnosis consolation payments, burn surgery costs, public transportation accident injury treatment, and even dog bite treatment expenses.

The "Jongno District Bicycle Insurance," designed to promote bicycle use and prepare for accidents, offers broad coverage for accidents while riding or boarding a bicycle, and for accidents caused by other bicycles while on the road. All residents are automatically eligible without any separate procedures, and claims can be filed within three years of an accident.

A fire mutual aid support program has also been established for traditional market merchants. Any merchant in a traditional market can enroll, regardless of building structure. The program includes not only property damage as the main contract but also various special contracts such as fire liability and daily business interruption compensation, providing a wide range of options. The maximum coverage is 100 million won, and inquiries should be directed to the Small Enterprise and Market Service.

Mayor Jung Moonhun stated, "These systems are key policies to strengthen Jongno District's social safety net, covering everyone from vulnerable groups to residents and merchants," adding, "We will do our utmost to create a livable community where everyone can live with peace of mind."
