Over 260,000 Benefited from Korea Post Public Service Projects... "Continuing This Year"

Korea Post's public service projects are serving as a reliable support system for vulnerable and marginalized groups.

On January 6, Korea Post Headquarters announced that last year it extended a helping hand to more than 262,000 people through 14 public service projects across four areas-utilizing post office infrastructure, supporting marginalized groups, nurturing future generations, and promoting sustainability and eco-friendliness-as well as through the operation of public interest insurance.

Among the social contribution activities using post office infrastructure, the "Welfare Registered Mail Service" and the "Care Package Delivery" projects are representative examples.

The Welfare Registered Mail Service was introduced to allow postal workers to deliver registered mail to vulnerable groups in their communities while also checking on their living conditions and identifying candidates for welfare support on-site. Korea Post expanded the number of local governments implementing this service from 86 in 2024 to 96 last year. As a result, 19,000 new households became eligible for local government support last year. By providing on-site services through post office infrastructure, Korea Post has taken the lead in identifying marginalized groups and connecting them to local government assistance.

The "Care Package Delivery" project, promoted in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, was also expanded last year. Initially piloted in 15 local governments nationwide in 2024, the project was incorporated as a regular program starting last year, with the number of participating local governments increasing to 31 across the country. The Care Package Delivery project was launched to regularly visit elderly and isolated households, checking for and mitigating potential risk factors.

Supporting future generations has also been a key focus of Korea Post's public interest projects. Last year, Korea Post provided a monthly meal allowance of 300,000 won to 245 young adults preparing for independence, helping them prepare for a stable future and stand on their own as members of society. In addition, scholarships were awarded to 800 underprivileged youths, and 240 children from families with disabilities were given opportunities for cultural experiences, life management, and learning support activities through mentorship by university students.

The significant increase in subscribers to "public interest insurance," operated to strengthen the social safety net, is also considered a noteworthy achievement from last year. The "Korea Post Mom Insurance," which provides free coverage for rare childhood diseases and pregnancy-related illnesses, attracted strong interest from expectant mothers, with approximately 130,000 new enrollments last year. This figure represents about half of all newborns in the country for the year.

The "10,000 Won Happiness Insurance," which covers injuries for vulnerable groups, also saw approximately 27,000 new subscribers last year. In addition, the "Shoulder-to-Shoulder Insurance" for people with disabilities and the "Youth Dream Insurance" benefited from expanded free enrollment support, resulting in a total of about 160,000 new beneficiaries being added to Korea Post's public interest insurance list.

Korea Post Headquarters will continue its social contribution activities this year. The related budget has been increased by 1.7 billion won from the previous year, totaling 13.2 billion won. Through this, Korea Post plans to strengthen support for vulnerable groups and launch new initiatives to address social issues such as low birth rates and an aging population.

Kwak Byungjin, Acting Director General of Korea Post Headquarters, stated, "Korea Post is an institution that has grown on the foundation of the public's love and trust," adding, "We will strive to ensure that the love and trust we have received from the public are returned as acts of warmth and support for socially vulnerable and marginalized groups."
