Focusing on Strengthening Education and Capacity Building for the Overseas Korean Community through Mutual Exchange and Cooperation

Soongsil Cyber University (President Han Heonsu) announced on January 6 that it has signed a business agreement with Overseas Koreans Newspaper, which serves as a bridge for the 7 million overseas Koreans around the world.
The two institutions held a signing ceremony for the business agreement at 3 p.m. on December 29, 2025, in the 6th-floor conference room of Soongsil Cyber University's main campus. The event was attended by Han Heonsu, President of Soongsil Cyber University; Lee Jeongjae, Director of Planning; Cho Jeongseok, Head of the International Business Division; Sim Hyejin and Lee Sugang, members of the International Business Division; Lee Sanggi, Chairman of Overseas Koreans Newspaper; Park Cheolui, CEO; Hwang Bokhee, Editor-in-Chief; and Jang Younghwan, Head of the Reporting Division, among other key officials. Both sides pledged close cooperation to achieve their shared goals in the future.
This agreement centers on promoting education and capacity building within the overseas Korean community through mutual exchange and collaboration. Specific areas include: ▲ exchange of experts and advisory services between the two institutions ▲ joint online/offline publicity ▲ joint development and operation of educational programs to strengthen the capabilities of overseas Koreans ▲ and other areas of cooperation deemed necessary for the development and operation of both institutions. Further details not specified in the agreement will be pursued through mutual consultation.
Additionally, when employees and related personnel of Overseas Koreans Newspaper enroll at Soongsil Cyber University, they will be eligible for generous scholarship benefits in accordance with the university-industry cooperation regulations.
Founded on April 5, 2003, marking the 100th anniversary of Korean immigration, Overseas Koreans Newspaper delivers major issues, policies, education, economic, and cultural news to Korean communities worldwide. Through its 2024 Vision Declaration Ceremony, the newspaper is focusing on developing diverse content that aligns with the spirit of the 21st century, including establishing a strong overseas Korean identity as part of its 'second entrepreneurial spirit.'
Han Heonsu, President of Soongsil Cyber University, stated, "The overseas Korean community is not simply a recipient of support, but an important partner in shaping the future of Korea. It is crucial to provide practical educational opportunities that transcend regional and national boundaries by leveraging the educational infrastructure and online learning system of a cyber university." He added, "Education for overseas Koreans is not a one-time project, but must be continuous and systematic. I hope this collaboration with Overseas Koreans Newspaper will develop into a practical cooperation model in which both education and media participate together."
Park Cheolui, CEO of Overseas Koreans Newspaper, commented, "We have high expectations as we join forces with Soongsil Cyber University, Korea's first online university established in 1997, to support the education and growth of the overseas Korean community." He added, "I hope overseas Koreans will be able to freely pursue lifelong learning opportunities without spatial or temporal constraints."
Meanwhile, Soongsil Cyber University, Korea's first cyber university established in 1997, has been leading the country's online education trends. To date, it has produced approximately 7,000 current students and more than 30,000 graduates across various fields.
Celebrating its 29th anniversary this year, the university is making significant efforts to provide an optimal educational environment by implementing various strategic projects for university development, including building a specialized university system under the vision of 'Towards 100 Years of Founding,' innovating education centered on student needs, expanding tailored student support, strengthening glocal capabilities, and realizing a sustainable management system.
