Mayor Lee Jaejun: "I Will Complete a Suwon That Citizens Can Truly Experience Through a Great Transformation"

Lee Jaejun, Mayor of Suwon City, stated, "I will complete a new Suwon through a great transformation that citizens can truly feel."

During the New Year's briefing held at Ilwol Arboretum on January 6, Mayor Lee said, "In 2026, we will continue to implement citizen-centered policies that provide real benefits to people's lives," adding, "I will meet more citizens, listen to more voices, and work together with the community to create a new Suwon."

He went on to emphasize, "Every policy in Suwon, a 'city of citizen sovereignty,' begins with the voices of our citizens," and stressed, "What citizens say will determine the direction Suwon takes."

As a vision for Suwon's future, Mayor Lee presented the following: ▲ a city centered on advanced scientific research ▲ a world-class cultural tourism city ▲ a more livable city that citizens can truly experience.

First, Mayor Lee pledged, "We will make every effort to ensure that the Suwon Free Economic Zone receives final designation from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy this November," adding, "By concentrating advanced scientific research functions such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and biotechnology in the Suwon Free Economic Zone, we will develop Suwon into a center for advanced scientific research and a global hub for advanced research and development (R&D)."

He also said, "We will industrialize Suwon Hwaseong's three major festivals-the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, King Jeongjo's Royal Parade, and Suwon Hwaseong Media Art-and nurture them into one of the world's top three festivals," adding, "We will recommend to the central government that the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival be officially designated as a 'national K-festival' led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism."

He continued, "To reduce the cost of living for citizens, we will launch the 'Suwon Saebit Living Cost Package Project' starting this year," explaining, "We have meticulously designed the Saebit Living Cost Package so that all groups-from families with newborns to teenagers, young adults, and seniors-can benefit equally."

In particular, he emphasized, "I will go into the field more often to listen directly to citizens and continue to discover sustainable policies that truly resonate with people," adding, "I will devote all my energy to ensuring that citizens can enjoy a better quality of life."
