Hwajeong 2-dong in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on January 6 that it had received a regular youth sponsorship donation of 12 million won from Seunghoon Cha, a youth welfare advocate and CEO.
Hwajeong 2-dong identified three teenagers from basic livelihood recipient families. The regular support will provide each household with 300,000 to 400,000 won per month in educational expenses, targeting students such as those in the top 10% of their middle school class who cannot attend private academies due to financial difficulties, and teenagers from single-parent basic livelihood recipient families.
CEO Cha is an entrepreneur who overcame multiple business failures and found success by running Green Panel Steel Industry in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
He participated in establishing the non-profit organization Youth Manse and served as its chairman from 2014 to 2019. He has consistently supported the healthy growth of at-risk youth by operating youth shelters and providing self-reliance support.
Recently, he also launched and currently operates 'Ettledam Bakery & Coffee' in Hwajeong 2-dong.
CEO Cha practices community sharing by donating leftover bread produced daily to nursing homes and elderly households living alone. He is also planning various welfare activities in the future, including youth employment support programs.
CEO Cha said, "As I started a new business in Hwajeong 2-dong recently, I thought about what I could do for local youth," adding, "Although it is a small contribution, I hope this will help foster a virtuous cycle in the community, so that young people do not give up on their dreams and continue to pursue new challenges."
Lee Hyungsuk, head of the district office, expressed deep gratitude, saying, "We are very thankful for sharing the assets you have accumulated through hard work with youth in difficult circumstances," and added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that Hwajeong 2-dong, a village with many young people, becomes a warm community where children's dreams can flourish."
