This meeting was the first National Tax Service Commissioners' Meeting held since the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2024. The National Tax Service expects that by further strengthening tax cooperation, it will provide systematic support for the economic activities of Korean companies and residents in Cambodia.

On this day, Commissioner Im Kwanghyun emphasized that active information exchange between tax authorities is crucial to effectively respond to illegal fund transfers through transnational crimes such as online scams and internet gambling, as well as offshore tax evasion involving the concealment of income and assets in the other country. The National Tax Service is also regularly holding working-level meetings with Cambodia to discuss ways to expand and utilize the exchange of tax information, thereby strengthening information cooperation.

The two countries also discussed the direction that tax administration should take in the digital environment. The National Tax Service is pursuing innovative initiatives through the 'AI Transformation of National Tax Administration,' aiming to enhance taxpayer convenience, ensure fair taxation, and improve the efficiency of tax administration.

At this meeting, the heads of the two national tax services also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on tax cooperation, focusing on sharing tax administration experience and supporting companies operating in both countries. Based on this MOU, the Korea and Cambodia National Tax Services plan to further strengthen their ongoing partnership and jointly support companies active in both countries.
