"Creating a Habitat for Shopping"
Four-Story Atrium Unveiled
Waterfall-Inspired F&B Terrace Planned for Floors 6 and 7
The interior design of the complex shopping mall 'Square One Seoul,' part of Seobu T&D's 'Seobu Truck Terminal Urban Advanced Logistics Complex,' has been unveiled.
The development project for the 'Seobu Truck Terminal Urban Advanced Logistics Complex,' which held its groundbreaking ceremony on November 4 of last year, is a large-scale, mixed-use development with a total floor area of approximately 791,903 square meters. The project will feature advanced logistics facilities, a complex shopping mall, residential units (a total of 997 households, including 98 public rental units), and public contribution facilities. The total project cost is estimated to exceed 2 trillion won.
In addition, Seobu T&D signed a business agreement with Samsung C&T on November 11 of last year for the development of residential facilities under the Raemian brand. On December 24 of the same year, the company passed the architectural review by the Seoul Metropolitan Government for the mixed-use site comprising logistics facilities and a complex shopping mall, thereby officially launching the project.
Within the complex, advanced logistics facilities such as a fulfillment center, a cold chain center, and shared warehouses will be established, creating a next-generation smart logistics infrastructure that handles the entire process from product intake to storage, sorting, and delivery all within the site. This is expected to dramatically improve logistics efficiency in downtown Seoul and help alleviate traffic and environmental burdens.
In particular, the addition of retail facilities, a complex shopping mall, and spaces for work, culture, and relaxation-which have been lacking in the area-will significantly enhance the convenience of local residents. Furthermore, the project is expected to revitalize the local commercial district and create a significant number of new jobs.
The interior design plan for the 'Square One Seoul' complex shopping mall, with a floor area of 254,696 square meters, was developed over the past year by Les Architects-winners of numerous domestic and international awards such as the iF Design Award, Red Dot Design Award, and the 2024 Korean Institute of Architects Award-who were responsible for floors B2 to 4F, and Eunmin S&D, a leader in large commercial space design, who handled floors 5F to 7F, in collaboration with Seobu T&D.
At the heart of the shopping mall will be the 'Big Leaf' atrium, a massive symbolic structure spanning four floors. This atrium, a new type of mixed-use cultural space being introduced for the first time, is based on the concept of a 'habitat for shopping,' and is designed to allow users to experience the feeling of being immersed in nature while indoors.
With a surreal structure of giant overlapping petals rising within the atrium space, combined with a waterfall cascading from the ceiling, the space offers new experiences that change with the passage of time and the seasons. The Big Leaf atrium is expected to serve not only as a sculptural centerpiece but also as a space that deepens the visitor experience, becoming a core identity for the new shopping mall.
On the uppermost levels, the 6th and 7th floors, a food court and F&B terrace will be created around a large waterfall (water feature). This space, which blends natural stone, trees, falling water, and natural light, goes beyond a simple dining area to realize the concept of 'rest in nature within the city,' offering customers a new emotional experience.
The flow of water and natural ambiance created by the waterfall will guide visitors' gaze and movement smoothly throughout the space. These experiential elements are expected to enhance the appeal of the upper levels of the shopping mall and play a key role in increasing the time customers spend there. In addition, the terrace area will be able to present a variety of atmospheres depending on the season and time of day, establishing itself as a symbolic F&B destination that continually attracts a diverse range of customers.
Seobu T&D stated, "We aim to create a new type of stay-oriented commercial space where every aspect of the visitor experience-shopping, dining, relaxation, and movement-is seamlessly connected within the 'flow of nature.' We are committed to ensuring the highest level of completion for the entire project, with the goal of finishing construction by 2030, and will do our utmost to ensure responsible project execution."
