Donghae City Energized by Winter Training Camps... Strengthening Its Status as a Sports City

Over 1,200 Winter Training Athletes to Visit Donghae in January
National Judo and Soccer Prospects Gather in Donghae
Local Economy Sees Positive Impact

Donghae City in Gangwon Province is strengthening its reputation as a sports city, with various winter training teams from different disciplines visiting one after another.

First, a joint winter judo training camp is being held at Donghae Gymnasium from January 5 to January 10. Thanks to excellent transportation accessibility, accommodation infrastructure, and sports facilities, a total of 408 athletes from 24 teams nationwide have chosen Donghae City as their training destination.


Following this, a nationwide joint winter training session for middle and high schools is scheduled to take place at Donghae Gymnasium from January 12 to January 16, with 268 athletes from 16 teams planning to use Donghae City as their winter training base.


The National Middle School Winter Stove League Soccer Tournament is being held from January 5 to January 27, hosted and organized by the Donghae City Football Association. A total of 570 participants from 13 teams are taking part, further expanding the foundation for the continued operation of stay-type sports training and competitions.


In addition, the Gangneung Swimming Dream Tree Winter Training is being held from January 5 to January 24 at the Mangsang Boyang Hot Spring Swimming Pool and Fitness Center, with 35 participants from 2 teams joining a systematic training program.


By attracting these winter training camps, Donghae City is accelerating its policy efforts to strengthen its image as a premier sports city, promote sports tourism, and expand the virtuous cycle of the local economy.

In particular, the city expects that the increase in the population staying in Donghae during the peak winter training period of January and February will generate widespread economic ripple effects across accommodation, food, tourism, and the local commercial sector.


Cheon Sujeong, Head of the Sports Division, stated, "Donghae City is a place with a climate suitable for year-round training and excellent sports infrastructure, allowing training camps to operate throughout the year. We will continue to actively leverage our outstanding environment and location to strengthen strategies for attracting stay-type visitors and build a vibrant sports and tourism city all year round."
