The city of Yongin announced on January 6 that it will implement a QR code authentication-based access system in the transfer passageways at Giheung Station to allow free movement between exits, with operations beginning in March.
Since the opening of the Yongin Light Rail Transit in 2014, the gates on the second basement floor of Giheung Station have blocked movement between these exits. As it became impossible to move between transfer passageways or exits, there have been continuous complaints demanding improvements.
In response, the city decided to introduce a QR code authentication-based access system after discussions with relevant organizations such as Korea Railroad Corporation, National Railroad Authority, and Yongin Light Rail Transit, to enable movement between exits.
With the introduction of this system, passengers at Giheung Station will be able to use QR codes to access their desired exits. The city explained that this QR code-based authentication system is being implemented for the first time at Giheung Station.
A city official stated, "The QR code authentication method is the most efficient way to improve convenience of movement without altering the existing exit structure," adding, "We expect the introduction of this system to greatly enhance pedestrian convenience for citizens."
