More than 1,200 Jung-gu residents attended the event at the Grand Theater of Chungmu Art Center, along with Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon, National Assembly members Bae Hyunjin and Park Sungjoon, Seoul Vice Mayor for Political Affairs Kim Byungmin, Jung-gu Council Chair Yoon Panoh, and other distinguished guests.
Mayor Oh Sehoon stated, "Last year, I visited Jung-gu more than any other district," and emphasized, "Jung-gu should serve as the center of the 'Revival of Northern Seoul Era'." He also pledged that the Seoul Metropolitan Government would work together to build the Yi Sun-sin Memorial Hall, install arcades in traditional markets, and resolve parking issues in Cheonggu-dong.
Mayor Kim Gilsung introduced the district's transformation into "Jung-gu, a place where people want to live for a long time," highlighting more than 50 ongoing urban renewal projects following the relaxation of the Namsan height restriction, the Namsan Foot Trail which attracts an average of 58,000 visitors per month, transportation subsidies for over 23,000 senior citizens, and care and career experience programs for more than 10,000 children.
Presenting the new vision, "Prepared Change, Toward a Greater Jung-gu," Mayor Kim announced plans to supply 14,000 housing units by 2035 through redevelopment projects in Sindang 8, 9, and 10 districts and around 398 Jungnim-dong.
The Namsan Foot Trail will be connected to Namsan Mountain, and the Naepyeon Jung-gu Bus will serve every neighborhood. Support such as transportation subsidies for seniors, postpartum care subsidies tailored for Jung-gu, and career experience cards for middle school students will serve as pillars of daily life. The "Always Healthy Center" aims to extend residents' healthy life expectancy by five years.
Additionally, the district plans to become a global historical tourism city through four major festivals: the Yi Sun-sin Festival, Jeongdong Night Walk, Namsan Foot Trail Festa, and the Myeongdong Square Countdown Show.
Mayor Kim stated, "This is not just a vague hope, but a prepared change to build a greater Jung-gu," and added, "With the trust of Jung-gu residents as our strength, I will work even harder for Jung-gu's future with the passion of the red horse."
