At around 9:00 p.m. on January 4, a trailer traveling toward Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, collided with a cargo truck that was stopped due to a breakdown, straddling the shoulder and the fourth lane near Haman Hill on the Namhae Expressway in Gunbuk-myeon, Haman County, South Gyeongsang Province.
As a result of the accident, the cargo truck driver, a man in his 50s identified as A, was seriously injured and transported to the hospital, but later died.
At the time of the accident, it was confirmed that neither A nor the trailer driver, a man in his 40s identified as B, was under the influence of alcohol or driving without a license.
The vehicles involved in the accident were towed at around 12:15 a.m. on January 5. To facilitate this, the third and fourth lanes were closed, but traffic continued normally on the first and second lanes, so there was no major congestion.
The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
