The Yeongyang County Election Commission in North Gyeongsang Province filed a complaint on January 5 with the Yeongdeok Branch of the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office against two prospective candidates, referred to as A and B, for the 9th nationwide local elections (Yeongyang County Council member election). They are accused of providing money and goods to the event organizing body under the pretext of sponsoring a local festival.
According to an official from the Election Commission, "On November 26, 2025, these individuals allegedly provided sponsorship for prizes at the 13th Yeongyang County Volunteer Festival, with A offering 200,000 won in cash and B providing goods worth approximately 50,000 won to the organizing group. If election-related money or goods are received, a fine of up to 30 million won may be imposed, so voters should exercise particular caution," the official stated.
According to Article 113, Paragraph 1 of the Public Official Election Act, candidates (including those intending to become candidates) are prohibited from making donations to any individual, institution, organization, or facility within their electoral district, or even outside the district if the recipient has ties to voters in the district. Violation of this regulation may result in imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 10 million won under Article 257, Paragraph 1 of the same law.
