Field Trip to the Forensic Science Team at Busan Metropolitan Police Agency
Practitioner Mentoring and Special Lectures Held
Algorithms have replaced microscopes, and data has taken the place of hypotheses as the main focus.
The Biohealth Innovation Convergence College Project Group at Dong-Eui University, led by Jeong Kyungtae, held the '2025 D-COSS Bio Forensic Crime Profiling Competition' from December 29 to 31, 2025, at Dong-Eui University and the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency.

This competition brought together 24 students from Dong-Eui University, as well as Dankook University, Daejeon University, Sangmyung University, Woosong University, Hongik University, and Wonkwang Health Science University, all of which operate Biohealth Innovation Convergence College programs. The event was designed to enhance practical skills in forensic science and to strengthen convergent problem-solving abilities through special lectures and hands-on sessions with digital anatomy devices.
The competition included a field trip to the Forensic Science Team at the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, practitioner mentoring and special lectures, and the profiling competition itself.
During the practitioner mentoring and special lectures, investigators, coroners, and crime analysts from the Busan and North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agencies participated. They provided hands-on experiences with immersive scientific investigation equipment, explained the analysis of causes of death using digital anatomy, and discussed the scope of scientific investigation through case studies such as bloodstain and fingerprint analysis, covering the overall concepts of forensic science.
On the final day, the profiling competition concluded with group presentations of their final profiling reports, after which awards were given. The team from Wonkwang Health Science University won the grand prize and received 1 million won, the team from Sangmyung University received the excellence award, and the joint team from Dong-Eui University and Hongik University received the merit award.
Jeong Kyungtae, the head of the project group, stated, "A key feature of this competition is that it embodied the spirit of innovative convergence by bringing together students from all seven universities operating Biohealth Innovation Convergence College programs, breaking down barriers between institutions." He added, "We will continue to provide substantial programs for students that align with the values of sharing and innovation."
