Democratic Party Daegu City Committee Urges Introduction of Live Streaming for Plenary and Standing Committee Sessions in Nine Basic Councils

The Democratic Party Daegu City Party Local Council Members Association, chaired by Kim Bokyung, held a press conference at 1:00 p.m. on January 5, strongly urging the full introduction of live streaming for all plenary and standing committee sessions in the nine basic councils of the Daegu region.

During the press conference, the association pointed out that the closed operational practices of local councils infringe upon residents' right to know. They also called for the establishment of a concrete roadmap to enhance transparency and expand resident participation.

Democratic Party Daegu City Committee Urges Introduction of Live Streaming for Plenary and Standing Committee Sessions in Nine Basic Councils The Democratic Party Daegu City Party Local Council Members Association is holding a press conference urging the introduction of live broadcasts for the basic council plenary sessions and standing committee meetings.

Additionally, they cited the "Measures to Promote Public Access to Local Council Proceedings" recommended last year by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission for 243 local councils nationwide. The recommendations emphasized expanding live streaming, clarifying the timing of public disclosure of meetings, and strengthening online accessibility as key points.

Kim Bokyung, chairperson of the Local Council Members Association, stated, "It goes against the principles of democracy for residents to learn about important local decision-making processes only after everything has concluded. We must abandon administrative convenience and transform into a resident-centered council."

On this day, the association announced three main demands to drive innovation in Daegu's basic councils: immediate implementation of live streaming for all meetings, establishment of relevant ordinances and meeting rules, and the construction of a system that enables all citizens, including the elderly and people with disabilities, to easily access broadcasts.

Chairperson Kim Bokyung emphasized, "Live streaming is a powerful tool to increase the transparency of council operations and resolve political distrust. With other local governments already adopting live streaming as the standard, there is no reason for Daegu to lag behind. We will continue to monitor and press for responsible responses from all district and county councils in Daegu until they provide clear answers."

The association plans to accelerate follow-up actions, such as proposing and amending relevant ordinances for each district and county council, starting with this press conference.
