Disability Pension Raised by 7,190 Won to Maximum Monthly Payment of 439,700 Won

This year, the maximum monthly payment for the Disability Pension will be 439,700 won, reflecting the inflation rate. The government provides a basic Disability Pension benefit, which serves as income support for low-income individuals with severe disabilities, as well as an additional benefit to help cover extra costs arising from disabilities. Among these, the basic benefit is determined based on the previous year’s national consumer price index change.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare on January 5, the basic benefit amount for this year has been set at 349,700 won, up 2.1% from last year’s 342,510 won in line with the consumer price inflation rate. The additional benefit, which is paid in varying amounts depending on income level, remains unchanged from last year at between 30,000 and 90,000 won.

Meanwhile, the eligibility threshold for the Disability Pension this year has been set at 1.4 million won for single-person households, up 20,000 won from last year, and at 2.24 million won for married couples, up 32,000 won. The eligibility threshold is determined each year to ensure that the bottom 70% of adults aged 18 or older with severe disabilities, based on income and asset changes, can receive the benefit, in accordance with the Disability Pension Act.
