Organic rice from Gangjin County in Jeollanam-do, grown while listening to music, has made its debut in the U.S. market.
According to Gangjin County on January 5, the county held a field communication meeting for the primary industry (agriculture) sector at the Yeongdong Farm Agricultural Cooperative Corporation in Sinjeon-myeon on January 2, and exported 10 tons of organic rice, branded as "Rice Grown Listening to Music," to Los Angeles (LA), United States.
The meeting was attended by twelve farmers representing the rice, horticulture, and livestock sectors, as well as the Gangjin County Governor, who discussed directions for agricultural development and strategies for expanding distribution and sales channels.
Immediately after the meeting, participants observed the loading of rice for export to the United States at Yeongdong Farm. The shipment consisted of 7 tons of white rice and 3 tons of brown rice, totaling 10 tons, all certified organic by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This rice will be shipped via Busan Port and supplied by sea transport to Erewhon, a premium organic market in Los Angeles.
This shipment is the first batch of a 100-ton export contract, with additional shipments to follow sequentially.
Gang Jinwon, Governor of Gangjin County, stated, "It is important that voices from the field are reflected in policy, and that the results are directly connected to actual exports and farmers' income. Based on cooperation with farmers and producer organizations, we will continue to support the overseas expansion of Gangjin agricultural products."
The county plans to continue field-oriented communication and pursue high value-added agricultural export strategies to promote the sustainable growth of the local agricultural sector.
