Reclassification of Cases Handed Over from the Kim Keonhee Special Prosecutor Team
The police announced that they are investigating 13 cases, including allegations surrounding the transfer of Kim Byungki, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, and his second son to Soongsil University.
At a regular press briefing on January 5, an official from the National Police Agency stated, "Twelve new cases have recently been filed, including allegations of entertainment provided by Coupang and suspicions regarding a spouse's business promotion expenses, which are being investigated by the Public Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency."
The police also reported that they have questioned 33 suspects and witnesses in connection with allegations of political lobbying by the Unification Church. On the morning of January 5, the special investigation team visited Seoul Detention Center, where former director Yoon is being held, and began the third round of questioning.
The police said they are investigating 18 cases related to Coupang, including personal information leaks, violations of the Act on Testimony and Appraisal before the National Assembly, and suspicions of cover-ups related to deaths from overwork.
Regarding cases handed over from the Kim Keonhee special prosecutor team, the police explained, "The third team of the special investigation headquarters, which is in charge of these cases, consists of 40 members and is currently reclassifying and consolidating 144 cases according to the details and nature of each suspect," adding, "No cases have yet been transferred to other departments."
