Sokcho City Selected as "Outstanding Institution" in 2025 Disaster Management Assessment, Proving Its Safety as a City

Commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety,
Special Grant of 130 Million Won, and Reward of 4 Million Won Secured

Sokcho City in Gangwon Province has achieved a significant milestone by being selected as an "Outstanding Institution" in the "2025 Disaster Management Assessment" organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. As a result, the city received a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety, a special grant of 130 million won, and a reward of 4 million won.

The Disaster Management Assessment is a comprehensive national evaluation conducted annually by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, targeting central government ministries, local governments, and public institutions. The assessment uses 43 indicators across six areas, including disaster prevention, response, recovery, and collaboration systems, and is carried out through both quantitative and qualitative evaluations.

In this year's assessment, Sokcho City received high marks for its customized protection policies for disaster-vulnerable groups, the activation of citizen-participatory disaster response training, the establishment of a rapid disaster information sharing system, the strengthening of field-oriented command response capabilities, and the advancement of collaboration systems among related disaster agencies.

In terms of on-site response capabilities, the main achievements highlighted were the establishment of a swift situation assessment and decision-making system by the command unit during disaster events, as well as the improvement of interdepartmental collaboration and response proficiency through practical simulation training.

Lee Byungseon, Mayor of Sokcho, stated, "This assessment is a meaningful achievement, as it objectively recognizes Sokcho City's practical efforts to protect the lives and property of our citizens. We will continue to strengthen our proactive response system to safeguard citizens from disasters and do our utmost to create a safe city where everyone can live with peace of mind."
