According to reports from The Washington Post and The New York Times on January 4, President Maduro is scheduled to appear at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan at noon on January 5, Eastern Time (2 a.m. on January 6, Korea Standard Time), where he will go through the arraignment process.
His wife, Cilia Flores, who was also arrested and extradited with President Maduro, will appear alongside him.
President Maduro was previously indicted in March 2020, during the first Trump administration, on charges of "narco-terrorism," including drug trafficking and money laundering.
The new indictment released by the U.S. Department of Justice additionally names his wife, his son, and Diosdado Cabello, Venezuela's Minister of the Interior, as defendants. The Washington Post reported that the indictment alleges President Maduro and his wife conspired to smuggle large quantities of cocaine into the United States and profited illicitly from these activities.
