Emphasizing "On-Site Administration"

On January 2, 2026, Yeongcheon City marked the start of the new year, Byeongo Year, by visiting key sites related to public welfare and major pending projects, signaling a vigorous beginning for the city's administration in 2026.

The 2026 New Year's theme for Yeongcheon City is "Junmadoyak," which means "A fine horse leaps vigorously."

Long known as the city of horses, Yeongcheon is set to see major foundational projects come to fruition this year, including the opening of Yeongcheon Race Park, the launch of the Kumho Daechang Hi-Pass IC, and the completion of the Yeongcheon City Museum. The city has expressed its determination to use these achievements as a springboard for further progress.

On this day, Yeongcheon officials visited Yeongcheon Public Market on the first market day of the new year to listen to merchants and citizens, checking on consumer prices and the local economic situation.

They also inspected the operation of heated benches at a nearby bus stop, carefully addressing any inconveniences citizens might experience during the cold wave.

Currently, the city has installed 297 heated benches at 237 bus stops throughout the area, ensuring that citizens can use public transportation warmly and safely even in cold weather.

Officials then visited major project sites in the Kumho area, closely examining the progress and future plans for each initiative.

In particular, at the construction sites of Yeongcheon Race Park and the Kumho Daechang Hi-Pass IC, both scheduled to open this year, they focused on inspecting the final stages of construction and urged those involved to prioritize safety management until completion.

Yeongcheon Race Park, currently under development in the Kumho-eup and Cheongtong-myeon areas, will be the fourth race park in the country. It is set to be completed in the first half of this year and is scheduled to open in the second half.

Yeongcheon Race Park is being developed as a multi-purpose cultural and leisure complex with cultural, tourism, and recreational functions, beyond just a horse racing facility. It is expected to contribute to job creation and the revitalization of the local economy.

Notably, the extension of Daegu Metro Line 1, scheduled for completion in the early 2030s, and its connection with the premium outlet planned for the Hayang and Wachon areas of nearby Gyeongsan City, are expected to generate various synergistic effects, including increased tourist inflow.

The Kumho Daechang Hi-Pass IC, slated to open in the first half of this year, is a project to install a Hi-Pass IC accessible in both directions between Seoul and Busan, spanning 2.36 kilometers at the 103-kilometer mark of the Gyeongbu Expressway (in the areas of Ogye-ri, Kumho-eup, and Byeongam-ri, Daechang-myeon).

Once opened, it is expected to greatly improve transportation accessibility, enhance logistics efficiency, and, through its connection with the Kumho General Industrial Complex scheduled for completion in the second half of the year, provide a foundation for attracting businesses and strengthening industrial competitiveness.

The Kumho Station Area Development Project is aimed at systematically developing the area around the new station to be established with the extension of Daegu Metro Line 1 to Yeongcheon (Kumho). Currently, the city is conducting a service for designating the development area and establishing a development plan.

The city plans to develop the Kumho area as a new growth hub that integrates residential, transportation, and industrial functions, based on the metro extension, race park, and Kumho General Industrial Complex.

In addition, Yeongcheon City will visit the Hi-Tech Park District, where Hwaseen Co., Ltd. and Logen Co., Ltd. have completed their move-in, and where, following a 160 billion won investment agreement with CAPEC Valeo Co., Ltd., construction of a new factory has begun. The city will check the operational status of resident companies and review key initiatives such as future land sales.

A city official stated, "We will ensure the smooth progress of core projects driving Yeongcheon's future growth, such as Yeongcheon Race Park, the Kumho Daechang Hi-Pass IC, Kumho Station Area Development, metro extension, and industrial complex development. We will also pay close attention to smaller but tangible policies, like heated benches, to create a year of progress together with our citizens."
