"No Damage Reported So Far"
On January 4, the Japanese Ministry of Defense announced that North Korea had launched what appears to be a ballistic missile, and that the object seems to have already fallen outside Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
According to Kyodo News, a Japanese government official stated that North Korea fired two objects suspected to be ballistic missiles, and both fell outside Japan's EEZ.
The Japanese government official also reported that, as of now, no damage has been confirmed.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi instructed officials to focus on gathering information, providing prompt updates, and ensuring the safety of aircraft and vessels.
Earlier, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff also announced that North Korea had launched a ballistic missile into the East Sea that morning.
This is North Korea's first ballistic missile launch of the year. It comes about two months after the launch of a short-range ballistic missile on November 7 last year.
Kyodo News reported that authorities from South Korea, the United States, and Japan are analyzing detailed information such as the flight distance.
