Sokcho City Establishes New Taekwondo Team and Recruits Top Athletes for Athletics Team
Workplace Sports Team Appoints Eight New Members
On January 2, Sokcho City in Gangwon Province held an appointment ceremony at the City Hall Situation Room for eight new members of the Sokcho City Hall Workplace Sports Team.

The appointment certificates were presented to eight individuals, including Coach Park Hyungyong (△ three athletes for the athletics team, △ one coach for the taekwondo team, △ four athletes for the taekwondo team).
The athletics team has recruited outstanding middle-distance runners, including those specializing in the 800 meters. The team plans to focus on developing middle-distance events based on harmony with existing athletes.
The taekwondo team will be newly established and operated this year. The inaugural ceremony is scheduled for the end of January 2026, and the city aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the workplace sports team and promote local sports by securing promising athletes and establishing a systematic coaching structure.
The city will continue to provide ongoing support to ensure the effective operation of the workplace sports team, as well as to allow athletes to focus on training and improving their performance in a stable environment. At the ceremony, the athletes also renewed their determination ahead of the 2026 season.
Lee Byungsun, Mayor of Sokcho, stated, "Today's appointment ceremony marks a new starting point for the Sokcho City Hall Workplace Sports Team to take a leap forward. We will actively support both the existing and newly joined members so they can take pride in their team and devote themselves to training and competition."
