President Lee Orders Thorough Protection of Koreans in Venezuela, Evacuation Plans to Be Executed if Necessary Yonhap News

President Lee Jaemyung instructed on the 3rd that "protection of Korean nationals in Venezuela must be thorough, and evacuation plans should be meticulously prepared and swiftly executed if necessary," according to the Office of the President.


On January 3 local time, the United States launched a surprise airstrike on Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. Multiple explosions reportedly occurred in Caracas as a result of the U.S. airstrike. Foreign media also reported that officials have confirmed President Donald Trump ordered the airstrike on Venezuela.


According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other sources, there are currently about 70 Korean nationals residing in Venezuela. As of now, no damage has been reported to the embassy following the U.S. airstrike.
